Siam Square (Thai: สยามสแควร์) is a shopping and entertainment area in the Siam District of Bangkok, Thailand. The area connects to other shopping centres and links to the other shopping districts by sky bridge, such as Siam Center/Siam Discovery Center, MBK Center,Siam Paragon, Ratchaprasong shopping district and Sukhumvit Road.

Within Siam Square itself, there is a range of shops and services, including tutor schools, restaurants, cafe, designer clothing boutiques, record stores, bookshops, Hard Rock Cafe and banks. The customers vary from young-aged school and college students to office workers and foreign tourists. It is sometimes referred to as the"SoHo" or "Shinjuku of Thailand"

Khaosan Road or Khao Sarn Road 

(Thai: ถนนข้าวสาร) is a short street in central Bangkok, Thailand. It is located in the Banglamphu area of (Phra Nakhon district) about 1 km north of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew.

"Khaosan" translates as "milled rice", a reminder that in former times the street was a major Bangkok rice market. In the last 20 years, however, Khaosan Road has developed into a world famous "backpacker ghetto". It offers cheap accommodation, ranging from 'mattress in a box' style hotels to reasonably priced 3-star hotels. In an essay on the backpacker culture of Khaosan Road,Susan Orlean called it "The Place to Disappear."[1] It is also a base of travel: coaches leave daily for all major tourist destinations in Thailand, from Chiang Mai in the North to Ko Pha Ngan in the South, and there are many relatively inexpensive travel agents who can arrange visas and transportion to the neighboring countries of Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia, as well as Vietnam.

Khaosan shops sell handcrafts, paintings, clothes, pirated CDs, DVDs, and second-hand books, plus many useful backpacker items.

There are several pubs and bars, where backpackers meet to discuss their travels. The area is internationally known as a center of dancing, partying, and just prior to the traditional Thai New Year (Songkran festival) of April 13 to April 15, water splashing that usually turns into a huge water fight. One Thai writer has described Khaosan as "a short road that has the longest dream in the world."[2]

A Buddhist temple under royal patronage, the centuries old Wat Chana Songkram, is directly opposite Khaosarn Road to the west, while the area to the northwest contains an Islamic community and several small mosques.

A Tribute to Mae Fa Luang, The Mother of us all
When Princess Srinakarin, the mother of King Rama IX, passed away in 1995 it was one of the saddest times in Thailands modern history. This remarkable woman was born a commoner, daughter of a goldsmith in Nonthaburi province and grew up in Thonburi near Wat Anongkharam. Throughout her life, she never forgot her humble beginning and devoted her considerable energy to improving the life of all Thais. The most well-known of her achievements was the establishment of the Doi Tung Foundation to assist the northern hill tribes.

In 1993, King Bumipol Adulyadej expressed his wish to renovate the area around his mother childhood home in Thonburi as thanks to Princess Srinakarin who is still referred to as Mae Fa Luang meaning "The Mother of Us All".

Her original home had no longer existed so owners of some similar buildings in the area gladly donated them to the King for his project.

The Princess Mother Memorial Park has a reproduction of the house where she lived as a child set in open space with beautiful gardens. There are two exhibition halls, the first devoted to her life including signed photographs such as the one of her at the age of 14. The photographs with supporting text chronicle her life and finally her cremation ceremony in 1996.The second exhibition hall recounts her active life and many achievements in establishing projects. It includes some very personal items such as a Mickey Mouse needlepoint that she made for The King.A gazebo shelters a statue of the Princess Mother and a small shop nearby sells products manufactured by some of her projects.

ntroducing Nam Nao National Park

One of Thailand’s most beautiful and valuable parks, Nam Nao National Park (0 5672 9002, reservations 0 2562 0760; admission 400B; 6am-10pm) covers nearly 1000 sq km at an average elevation of 800m across the border of Chaiyaphum and Phetchabun Provinces, just beyond Khon Kaen Province. Although it covers remote territory – this remained a People’s Liberation Army of Thailand (PLAT) stronghold until the early 1980s – Hwy 12 makes access easy. Temperatures are fairly cool year-round, especially nights and mornings, and frost occasionally occurs between November and February.

Marked by the sandstone hills of the Phetchabun mountains, the park features dense, mixed evergreen-deciduous forest on mountains and hills; open dipterocarp pine-oak forest on plateaus and hills and dense bamboo mountain forest with wild banana stands in river valleys, plus scattered savannah on the plains. Three rivers are sourced here: the Chi, Saphung and Phrom. A fair system of trails branches out from the visitor centre to several scenic viewpoints. The park also features waterfalls and caves, some of which are easily reached by car along the highway. Nam Nao’s highest peak, Phu Pha Jit, reaches a height of 1271m and, with a park service guide leading the way, you can camp on the top.

The 1560-sq-km Phu Khiaw Wildlife Sanctuary lies adjacent to the park so wildlife is abundant, but the animals here are more timid than at nearby Phu Kradung National Park, and so are sighted less often. Elephants and banteng (wild cattle) are occasionally seen, as well as Malayan sun bears, leopards, tigers, Asian jackals, barking deer, gibbons, pangolins and flying squirrels. Over 200 species of bird, including parrots and hornbills, fly through the park.

Accommodation includes a camp site (per person with own tent 30B, 2-person tent hire 50B), huts (2 people 300B) and 17 bungalows (4-person 1000B). There are restaurants next to the visitor centre.

อุทยาแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว

อุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว มีพื้นที่ครอบคลุมอยู่ในท้องที่อำเภอเมือง อำเภอหล่มสัก อำเภอหล่มเก่า จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ และอำเภอคอนสาน จังหวัดชัยภูมิ เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติที่สวยที่สุดแห่งหนึ่ง ซึ่งเป็นเขตกั้นระหว่างภาคอีสานและภาคเหนือ สภาพพื้นที่ทั่วไปเป็นเทือกเขาสูง มีสภาพป่าอุดมสมบูรณ์เป็นป่าต้นน้ำลำธาร มีทิวทัศน์ธรรมชาติที่สวยงามหลายแห่ง อุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 966 ตารางกิโลเมตร หรือ 603,750 ไร่

ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ

ป่าน้ำหนาวเปรียบเสมือนแนวเขตกั้นแดนทางธรรมชาติระหว่างภาคอีสานและภาคเหนือ สภาพพื้นที่ทั่วไปเป็นเทือกเขาสูงทอดยาวผ่านจังหวัดชัยภูมิ และจังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ โดยเฉพาะภูผาจิตร ภูกุ่มข้าว และเทือกเขาโดยรอบประกอบขึ้นเป็นป่าต้นน้ำลำธาร ต้นกำเนิดของลำธารสายยาว เช่น แม่น้ำป่าสัก แม่น้ำพองแม่น้ำเลย ห้วยขอนแก่น ห้วยน้ำเชิญ ซึ่งไหลลงสู่เขื่อนอุบลรัตน์ และเขื่อนจุฬาภรณ์

ลักษณะภูมิอากาศ

โดยทั่วไปอากาศหนาวเย็นในตอนดึกและตอนเช้า ส่วนใหญ่ตอนกลางวันอากาศเย็นสบาย อาจกล่าวได้ว่า อุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาวมีอากาศหนาวเย็นตลอดปี อุณหภูมิเฉลี่ยตลอดปีประมาณ 25 องศาเซลเซียส ในฤดูฝนจะมีฝนตกชุกระหว่างเดือนกันยายน-ตุลาคม ส่วนในฤดูหนาว อากาศหนาวเย็นมาก จนบางครั้งน้ำค้างกลายเป็นน้ำแข็ง อากาศหนาวเย็นที่สุดในเดือนธันวาคมและมกราคม ซึ่งในบางปีอุณหภูมิจะลดต่ำถึง 0 องศาเซลเซียส

ถ้ำผาหงษ์ ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 39 ทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 12 (ตอนหล่มสัก - ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 300 เมตร มีลักษณะเป็นเขาสูง มีทางเท้าเดินขึ้นยอดเขาประมาณ 200 เมตร เพื่อชมวิวทิวทัศน์และชมพระอาทิตย์ตกในตอนเย็น ภายในถ้ำมีหินงอกหินย้อยที่สวยงาม ______สวนสนบ้านแปก (ดงแปก) ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 49 ทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 12 (ตอนหล่มสัก - ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 5 กิโลเมตร มีลักษณะเป็นป่าสนสองใบขึ้นอยู่เป็น กลุ่มใหญ่เพียงชนิดเดียวตามธรรมชาติ ต้นไม้พื้นล่างประกอบด้วยทุ่งหญ้าและหญ้าเพ็กเป็นจำนวนมาก มีความสวยงามยิ่ง ______ สวนสนภูกุ่มข้าว ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 53 ทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 12 (ตอนหล่มสัก - ชุมแพ) มีทางลูกรังมาตรฐานแยกจากกิโลเมตรที่ 53 ถึงสวนสนภูกุ่มข้าว ระยะทาง 15 กิโลเมตร มีลักษณะเป็นป่าสนสามใบ มีต้นสนขนาดใหญ่มีความสูงตั้งแต่ 30 - 40 เมตร ขึ้นอยู่ตามธรรมชาติอย่างหนาแน่นแทบจะไม่มีไม้อื่นปะปนอยู่ มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 10 ตารางกิโลเมตร ไม้พื้นล่างประกอบด้วย ทุ่งหญ้าคา หญ้าเพ็ก จำนวนมากเช่นเดียวกัน ในฤดูแล้ง ทุ่งหญ้าใต้ต้นสนจะค่อย ๆ เปลี่ยนสีจากสีเขียวเป็น สีน้ำตาลแก่ พอถึงฤดูฝนใหม่ทุ่งหญ้าเหล่านี้ก็จะกลับเขียวอีกครั้งหนึ่งเป็นเช่นนี้เรื่อย ๆ ไป โดยเฉพาะใน ฤดูฝน ตามทุ่งหญ้าจะมีพันธุ์ไม้หลากสีนานาพรรณขึ้นอยู่อย่างสวยงามมาก ______ บริเวณสวนสนนี้ จะมีเนินเขาเตี้ย ๆ ลูกหนึ่ง เรียกว่า "ภูกุ่มข้าว" สูงจากระดับน้ำทะเลปานกลางประมาณ 880 เมตร เป็นเนินเขาที่เป็นจุดเด่นจุดหนึ่งท่ามกลางสวนสน เมื่อขึ้นไปยืนอยู่บนเนินเขา ภูกุ่มข้าว จะเห็นแนวยอดสนอยู่ระดับสายตา สามารถมองเห็นยอดสนเป็นแนวติดต่อกันพืดทั้งสี่ด้านของ ภูกุ่มข้าว มองดูแล้วจะเห็นคล้ายๆ ท้องทะเลของยอดสน เมื่อมองไปทางทิศใต้จะเห็นอ่างเก็บน้ำของเขื่อน จุฬาภรณ์ (น้ำพรม) ที่กว้างใหญ่ ______ น้ำตกเหวทราย ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 67 ทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 1 (ตอนหล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้า 1 กิโลเมตร เป็นน้ำตกที่เกิดจากลำห้วยสนามทรายซึ่งมีต้นน้ำที่ ป่าดงดิบชื่อ "ดงแหน่ง" ไหลผ่านป่าซำผักดาว ลำห้วยสนามทรายนี้เป็นแนวธรรมชาติที่แบ่งเขตแดนระหว่าง กิ่งอำเภอน้ำหนาว จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ กับอำเภอคอนสาร จังหวัดชัยภูมิ น้ำตกเหวทรายเป็นน้ำตกที่มีความสูงประมาณ 20 เมตร บริเวณด้านใต้น้ำตกมีแอ่งน้ำลึกสามารถลงเล่นน้ำได้ และใต้น้ำตกมีชะง่อนหินขนาดใหญ่เป็นเพิงสามารถหลบฝนได้ บรรยากาศบริเวณลำห้วยน่าเดินเล่น เพราะมีต้นไม้ปกคลุมตลอด ในฤดูฝนน้ำตกมีปริมาณน้ำมากและสวยงาม ______ น้ำตกทรายทอง เป็นน้ำตกที่อยู่ห่างจากน้ำตกเหวทรายประมาณ 500 เมตร มีความกว้างที่สุดประมาณ 30 เมตร สูง 4 เมตร มีบรรยากาศร่มรื่นเหมาะแก่การนั่งเล่นพักผ่อนหย่อนใจ โดยเฉพาะในฤดูฝนน้ำตกมีปริมาณน้ำมากตกลงมาเป็นหน้ากว้าง 30 เมตร สวยงามมากเช่นเดียวกัน ______ภูผาจิตร (ภูด่านอีป้อง) ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 69 ทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 12 (ตอนหล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 10 กิโลเมตร ใช้เวลาเดินเท้าประมาณ 6-7 ชั่วโมง มีสภาพป่าสวยงามมาก ลักษณะของตัวภูตั้งโดดเดี่ยวบนที่ราบสูง ลักษณะสันฐาน คล้ายภูกระดึงแต่เล็กกว่า เป็นภูเขาที่มีที่ราบแบบโต๊ะ มีไม้สนขึ้นอยู่ ประกอบด้วยป่าดงดิบ ป่าเบญจพรรณ มีต้นไม้มีค่าหลายชนิด ภูเขานี้มียอดสูงสุดในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว สูง 1,271 เมตร จากระดับ น้ำทะเลปานกลาง ______ผาล้อมผากอง ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 40 ทางหลวงสายบ้านห้วยสนามทราย-อำเภอหล่มเก่า หน่วยพิทักษ์อุทยานแห่งชาติภูผากลางดง (ซำม่วง) ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 5-7 กิโลเมตร ลักษณะเป็นภูเขาสูง จากระดับน้ำทะเลปานกลาง ประมาณ 1,134 เมตร เป็นเขาหินปูนเมื่อขึ้นไปบนยอดเขาสามารถมองเห็นทิวทัศน์รอบ ๆ บริเวณได้ สภาพป่าส่วนใหญ่เป็นป่าดงดิบและป่าเบญจพรรณ ประกอบด้วยพันธุ์ไม้ที่มีค่ามาก บริเวณใกล้เคียงยังมีผากลางโหล่น มีความสูงประมาณ 850 เมตร ผาต้นฮอม มีความสูงประมาณ 900 เมตร ซึ่งมีทิวทัศน์สวยงามมากเช่นเดียวกัน ______ถ้ำใหญ่น้ำหนาว (ภูน้ำริน) ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกิโลเมตรที่ 60 ทางหลวงสายบ้านห้วยสนามทราย-อำเภอหล่มเก่า บ้านหินลาด มีทางรถยนต์ เข้าถึงหน่วยพิทักษ์อุทยานแห่งชาติถ้ำใหญ่น้ำหนาวประมาณ 3 กิโลเมตร ลักษณะของถ้ำแห่งนี้เป็นเขาหินปูนสูงประมาณ 955 เมตร เป็นถ้ำขนาดใหญ่ที่มีความวิจิตรพิศดารของธรรมชาติ มีหินงอกหินย้อย และที่แปลกที่สุดคือมีน้ำไหลหรือน้ำรินออกจากปากถ้ำ ภายในถ้ำยังเป็นที่อาศัยของค้างคาวจำนวนนับแสนตัวอีกด้วย ความลึกของตัวถ้ำนั้นไม่มีใครทราบแน่ชัด เนื่องจากเป็นถ้ำที่มีความลึกมาก ______ น้ำตกตาดพรานบา ทางเข้าอยู่ใกล้ที่ว่าการกิ่งอำเภอน้ำหนาว กิโลเมตรที่ 20 ทางหลวงสายบ้านห้วยสนามทราย - อำเภอหล่มเก่า เป็นทางลูกรังรถยนต์เข้าถึงน้ำตก มีลักษณะเป็นน้ำตกขนาดใหญ่ พอสมควรตกลงจากหน้าผาสูงประมาณ 20 เมตร น้ำจะตกจากหน้าผาสูงพุ่งเป็นลำสู่เบื้องล่างเป็นสองชั้น มีน้ำตลอดปีซึ่งเกิดจากลำน้ำเชิญ สาเหตุที่น้ำตกมีชื่อว่า "ตาดพรานบา" เนื่องจากพรานบาเป็นผู้เข้าไปพบน้ำตกแห่งนี้เป็นคนแรก สำหรับคำว่า "ตาด" นั้นเป็นภาษาพื้นบ้านท้องถิ่น หมายถึง น้ำตก ______ อุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาวได้จัดทำทางเดินเท้าสำหรับเที่ยวชมธรรมชาติ ในป่าไว้หลายสาย เพื่อให้นักท่องเที่ยวผู้ชอบเดินป่าสามารถชมธรรมชาติได้ทั่วถึง แผนที่เส้นทางเดินเท้าศึกษาธรรมชาติ

ที่ทำการอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว อยู่ห่างจากตัวเมืองขอนแก่น 103 กิโลเมตร และอยู่ห่างจากอำเภอหล่มสัก ประมาณ 55 กิโลเมตร เดินทางโดยรถยนต์ไปตามทางหลวงแผ่นดินหมายเลข 12 ถึงหลักกิโลเมตรที่ 50 จะมีป้ายชี้ทางเข้าสู่ที่ทำการอุทยานแห่งชาติ ฯ ระยะทางประมาณ 2 กิโลเมตร ถ้าจะไปโดย รถประจำทาง สามารถขึ้นรถโดยสารจากขอนแก่นหรือหล่มสัก ซึ่งผ่านหน้าที่ทำการอุทยานแห่งชาติทุก ๆ วันแผนที่อุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว
